There’s a silent credit killer out there that most folks don’t even know is lurking... it's errors on your credit reportWhether it’s a wrong address, a mystery collection, or a falsely reported late payment, these mistakes quietly drag your score down.

This week, we’re diving deep into how to spot these errors before they cost you real money and real opportunities.

Why Credit Report Errors Matter

Your credit report is like your financial report card... and if there’s incorrect info on it, it’s grading you unfairly.

Common errors include:

  • Incorrect names, addresses, or SSNs

  • Accounts that aren’t yours (ID mix-ups or fraud)

  • False late payments or wrong statuses

  • Collections that should’ve aged off

  • Duplicate accounts

  • Incorrect balances or credit limits affecting utilization

Just one mistake could be the reason you’re not at 700… or 800.

How to Check Your Credit for Errors

✅ Go to AnnualCreditReport.com (the official free site).

✅ Pull your reports from Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion.

✅ Review carefully:

  • Personal Info (names, addresses)

  • Accounts (are they yours? Accurate?)

  • Payment History (any false late payments?)

  • Collections (should be gone after 7 years or if paid)

  • Balances and Limits (affects credit utilization)

Screenshot, download, and save anything that looks off.

No One Will Protect Your Credit Except You

Here’s the truth: Your credit report doesn’t define you... it’s simply a snapshot of information.

If that information is wrong, it’s not your fault, but it is your responsibility to fix it.

This is the mindset shift: Credit is a game of awareness. Most people never look. They assume the bureaus are doing it right. But nobody is protecting your credit except you.

Checking your credit is an act of self-care. It’s saying, “I take my financial power seriously.”

When you approach credit with curiosity, discipline, and a “CEO of my finances” attitude... you win.

Credit Monitoring

If you have a credit card (which I'm pretty sure you do), you may have a credit monitoring service built into the account, but if you want expanded services try myFico.

Action for this week... Pull your reports, check for errors and get familiar with your credit file.

Remember... This is how you take your power back. And if mastering this feels good… imagine helping others do the same. This knowledge isn’t just for you... it can be a foundation for building wealth, teaching family, or even starting your own credit repair business.

Until next week,
