Merry Christmas... now what!

Merry Christmas... now what!
The holidays don’t erase your progress. Let’s talk about where you are and how to survive the season financially.

Merry Christmas!

I know this season is supposed to be joyful peaceful and full of magic. But for a lot of people, it’s also heavy. Bills don’t stop. Credit cards don’t disappear. And debt doesn’t take the holidays off.

I remember Christmases when I bought presents for everyone I knew and I didn't have the money in my bank to cover. I smiled on the outside but felt anxious on the inside. I was thinking about what I still owed, what I couldn’t afford and how January was going to hit hard.

If that’s where you are right now, hear this first...

Take care of yourself first before anyone else... this includes gifts that put you in the hole... how about giving people the gift of your time...

This week isn’t about perfection. It’s about awareness, grace and making it through without digging a deeper hole.

Where You Are Matters Than Where You "Should be"

One of the hardest parts of the holidays is comparison.

Comparing gifts.
Comparing traditions.
Comparing lifestyles.

But credit doesn’t care about appearances. It cares about behavior.

Here’s the truth...

Debt doesn’t mean you’re irresponsible.

Stress doesn’t mean you’re bad with money.

Progress doesn’t disappear because it’s December.

What matters most right now is knowing where you stand.

Balances.
Due dates.
Cash on hand.

Not to shame yourself.

To ground yourself and know.. we are gonna take care of this.

How to Survive The Holidays Without Wrecking January

You don’t need a complicated plan this week. You need a survival strategy.

Here are a few simple, realistic moves...

Pause new spending if you can... The best gift you can give January-you is restraint.

Avoid emotional swipes... Stress spending turns into regret spending.

Make minimums on time... On-time payments matter more than extra payments this week.

Skip the ‘I’ll figure it out later’ mindset... Later always comes faster than expected.

Choose presence over presents... Most people remember how you made them feel, not what you bought.

I already told my kids... we cooking at home next month, no eating out!

Grace is Part of The Plan

I want to say something clearly...

Being aware of your debt during the holidays does not make you negative. It makes you responsible.

You’re allowed to enjoy the season and still care about your future.
You’re allowed to rest and still be intentional.
You’re allowed to be where you are without beating yourself up.

When I was paying off debt, I learned that survival seasons require a different mindset. Not aggressive. Not perfect. Just continuing the work to get better.

Holiday Reality Check

This week’s GTPC Toolbox is about grounding, not grinding...

Quick Debt Snapshot... Write down balances without judgment. Just facts.

January Buffer Check... How much cash can you realistically keep untouched?

No New Debt Rule... Promise yourself no purchases that future-you has to stress about.

Holiday Check-In Habit... Look at your bank account calmly twice this week.

Stability is the goal right now. Not speed.

I’ve had Christmases where the tree looked good but my bank account didn’t. I’ve felt the pressure to spend, the anxiety about January and the quiet worry no one else could see.

And here’s what I learned...

The holidays don’t define your financial future.
Your next few decisions do.

So if you’re ending this year with debt, give yourself grace.

If you’re tired, rest.
If you’re stressed, slow down.

You don’t need to fix everything this week.
You just need to protect yourself.

Merry Christmas. You’re still moving forward, even if it doesn’t feel like it yet.

And I'll be honest, this 2025 Christmas made me a little uncomfortable. I spent more than I'm use to and it's ok, I have that "emergency fund" to use when I need it.

If you've been following along every week, We set us up for success. We become more aware, so we can prepare for when sh*t hits the fan.

Until next week,
